Over the summer of 2020, I created a tech demo for a 3D RPG I wanted to make known as Tuskboy. I did all of the art, design, and programming. The tech demo features movement, dialogue, and a prototype for a battle system. Music was done by my friend Stacy Chang.

Takeaways

This project taught me not to overscope and to have a solid core gameplay loop before iterating and polishing the art. Over the course of the summer, I spent the vast majority of my time on the aesthetics of the game, which forced me to cut many of the features I had wanted to finish before releasing the demo. Although I am proud of the look of this project, the underlying gameplay was hurt by this greatly and I have learned to not fall into the trap of making your game pretty before you even have a game. I still learned a lot about scripting in C#, 3D modeling, animations, and became a lot more familiar with Unity as a whole during this project.
